ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

Join us at Wesselman Woods to explore, learn, and experience the richness of an urban old-growth forest. From infants to our friends in retirement, our programs will engage the curiosity of every participant and offer hands-on discovery.

Group Programs

Spring and Fall Semester

Want to learn about an urban old growth forest or a wetland? Come and join us at Wesselman Woods or Howell Wetlands for a group program. We offer programming for schools, scout groups, retirement communities, and more. Participants can learn about many topics including pollination, raptors, reptiles, and lifecycles. If you can’t make it out to see us, we will come to you for an off-site program.

*Our Environmental Education team is fully booked for the 2024 Spring Semester.*

Programs for Kids

Wesselman Woods offers weekly and monthly programs focusing on environmental science for all-ages.

Little Eco-Scholars (LES) is a weekly one-hour program for children ages 3-5 and their families. LES introduces environmental and ecological principles through projects, games, and exploration in the Nature Playscape.

Junior Forest League (JFL) is a monthly drop-off program for children ages 6-12 that ignites environmental stewardship and exploration. Each month there is a new topic for participants to learn and explore.

SUmmer Camps

June and July

This summer, Wesselman Woods invites your child(ren) to explore the largest urban old-growth forest in the US. We offer weekly summer camps that include Wesselman Woods favorites like animal encounters, guided hikes, and Nature Playscape exploration.

Some previous summer camp themes included Art in the Wild, Enchanted Woods, and Camp Ology.

Nature play director

Calling all young environmental prodigies! Wesselman Woods chooses three Nature Play Directors each year between the ages of 5 and 12 who contribute their ideas to help guide the Environmental Education department on future initiatives.

Environmental Studies

All Year Round
