FAMILIES OF A FEATHER

Connecting children and their guardians through fun learning opportunities centered around birds. These sessions will introduce birdwatching skills and identification but also teach families how they can make a difference, even in their own backyard.

Families of A Feather: Birding for Beginners is an engaging, educational program designed specifically for families who are curious about the fascinating world of birds.

This FREE interactive program takes children aged 8+ and their guardians on a flight into the birding realm, equipping them with the essential skills and knowledge needed to become more confident birdwatchers and at-home conservationists.

During Families of A Feather sessions, participants will embark on outdoor expeditions guided by experienced birding enthusiasts and trained naturalists. They will learn how to identify various bird species by their distinctive colors, shapes, sizes, and songs.

Through presentations and hands-on activities, such as bird call simulations and feather identification, participants will deepen their understanding of avian characteristics and behaviors.

Join us on this avian adventure & become a part of our #featherfam!

This program is made possible thanks to the Lewis Memorial Fund and the Evansville Audubon Society. Adult guardians must be present.

All sessions will focus on two overarching themes: birding 101 and conservation. We aim to provide environmental education, introduce you to elements of citizen science, encourage family bonding, and give you skills that you can take outside of Wesselman Woods.
