A new series of nature-based craft workshops will be offered beginning in July 2024!

Local artisan and professor Justin Kramer brings his skills to Wesselman Woods and Howell Wetlands for “Wildcrafted” workshops. These classes utilize a variety of recycled and natural materials (including invasive species) to craft useful tools.

Each workshop is limited to 8 students to make for the most impactful experience.


Flower Presses

One-day course; two sessions available. All materials included.

July 15 and July 16 • 1-5 PM • Location: Wesselman Woods • $125 per student

Learn how to create flower and leaf presses from recycled books.

Each student will get to choose two different size books and learn the process of re-contextualizing recycled books to create one-of-a-kind presses and utilize the material in ways you could have never imagined!

Discover the accessible native species throughout Southern Indiana as inspiration to create meaningful, thoughtful, and unique presses.

Fishing Lures

One-day course; two sessions available. All materials included.

August 12 and 13 • 10 AM-4 PM • Location: Howell Wetlands • $225 per student

Explore the tradition & processes within carving wooden fishing lures using invasive species from Wesselman Woods.

Students will learn safe carving techniques via different types of historical methodologies using modern as well as ancient carving tools. Tools will be provided but each student is welcome to bring their own carving tools as this course will also teach you how to maintain and sharpen your tools!

About the Artist: Justin Kramer

Justin Kramer is a born and raised local who received his M.F.A. in applied design at San Diego State University in the furniture design program. His B.F.A. was completed at the Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis, Indiana with a double major in Furniture Design and Ceramics.

His personal work has evolved into hybridism of ecology, philosophy, and design. Teaching these acquired skills to the community has always been a driving force within his passion for the arts and is currently teaching within the art department at the University of Southern Indiana.

Justin also runs his own studio via commission work as well as raising a little one and tending to an ever growing bonsai collection/garden with his wife.
